Module 7 Assignment Chapter 3 & 8

Q Assignment Instructions Instructions Submission of your graded assignment is due by 11:59 p.m. Central time on Sunday. Assignments should be created and submitted as an attachment in one of the following forms: (MS Word or PDF) as AssignmentTitle_LastnameFirstInitial.docx or .pdf. View the general instructions below for assignment requirements, formatting expectations, and grading rubric applied to all CM Assignment Sections. This information can also be found in the General Instructions for Classroom Management Assignments Specific Instructions for Module 7 CM Assignment, which is based on Chapters 3 & 8 Chapter 3: Preparing for the School Year After reading Chapter 3, use what you have learned from the chapter to answer the prompt questions below. Chapter 3 Details: Use the second section (i.e., Organizing Your Classroom and Materials, pp. 55–60) of Chapter 3 to help you determine the layout you would prefer to have in your classroom given the grade level and types of student tasks you plan to use (e.g., individual work, group work, centers). 1. Create your floor plan. You may use whatever method you like o scanned hand drawing (PDF file) o Insert Shapes with text in Microsoft Word o snipping tool/screenshot of the floor plan you created using the class setup tool at http://classroom.4teachers.org/), need to add a different flash player extension to your browser-Adobe flash player is no longer supported. I use Ruffle on my Microsoft Edge browser to run this website and it works great! o Keep in mind you will have to convert your floor plan from PDF/Word to a Portable Network Graphics file/PNG to upload for the final project. This is very easy all you have to do is screenshot/clip art it into a Word doc, right-click the image and it will ask you if you want to save it as a picture, you click that option and save it as a PNG file. 2. If you have issues finding an online program to build a floor plan, you can always use Microsoft Word with shapes and text boxes. However, whatever you choose, your floor plan must be digitally (PDF) placed in your CM Section document- for this CM assignment. 3. Really take the time to create a good floor plan (really pay attention to detail), what you create will be used in your final project or if you are not happy with what you created here you can start from scratch for your final project, either is fine. Chapter 8: Planning and Conducting Instruction After reading Chapter 8, use what you have learned from the chapter to answer the prompt questions below. Chapter 8 Details: • Instructional Timeline: Use the section on Managing Lesson Delivery (pp. 146–156) to help you fill in the Instructional Timeline Chart provided below (next page). You do not have to use everything in the textbook section, but consider how an instructional “lesson” should progress given your grade level and content area. Your timeline should show how time will be spent by you as the teacher and your students during the first subject block (if elementary) or a single class period (if middle and secondary). Your timeline will include general teacher administrative tasks (e.g., taking roll or handing out worksheets), and instructional tasks (e.g., whole-group instruction), as well as student learning and application tasks (e.g., listen/take notes, inquiry, small-group work). Be specific on the amount of time for each task; consider transitions and overlapping certain teacher/student activities to conserve time. Once you have completed the chart, explain in your narrative why you made the decisions you did on it. • Grading Scheme: A grading scheme is a chart that shows how assignment grades weigh in relation to test grades. Think broadly about what an assignment or “test” can entail. No matter what grade level or content area you plan to teach, including Early Childhood, Family and Consumer Sciences, and Band, you will give assignments and tests and students will receive a grade for them; otherwise, how will you know that the student has progressed in their learning? For your chosen grade level and/or content area, think about how important assignments and tests are in comparison to each other. In elementary, tests usually don’t have much weight (total test grade is about 10% of the overall grade; a test grade weighs about the same as an assignment grade). In high school, tests weigh more (total test grade is about 50–75% of the overall grade; one test grade weighs about as much as five to seven assignment grades combined). In college, test grades often make up 100% of the total grade and assignments are worth nothing. Use the Grading Scheme chart provided below to show how specific types of recurring assignments and tests will weigh in relation to each other in your future class. Once you have completed the chart, explain in your narrative why you made the decisions you did on it.
